People continue to leave Dhaka on second day of Eid

On the second day of Eid-ul-Azha, countless people are still leaving Dhaka. Although most residents left the capital before Eid, many who could not leave earlier for various reasons are now heading home.

Some people said that due to the high demand for transportation before Eid, special duties during Eid, and transportation shortages, they are now going to their villages after Eid.

Before Eid, there was intense traffic congestion on various routes including Dhaka, but the roads become empty after Eid.

As a result, people can reach their destinations quickly without any hassle.

Additionally, some are taking the meat from their sacrificial animals to their relatives in the villages. Seasonal butchers from different districts who came for Eid sacrifices are also leaving Dhaka after finishing their work.

On Tuesday morning, many people were seen leaving Dhaka by bus, rail, and waterways.

Although public transportation was crowded in the morning, the pressure eased as the day progressed.

Most of those leaving Dhaka are from middle and lower-income backgrounds. Some are also going on trips to Cox's Bazar, Sylhet, and other districts for leisure.

On the morning of the second day of Eid, the scene at the Kamalapur railway station was one of overwhelming crowds.

However, the station emptied quickly as several trains departed.

At 6:15am, all tourist trains bound for Cox's Bazar left with full capacity.

The same scenario was observed for the Chittagong-bound Mahanagar Provati, which departed at 7:45am.

A passenger of this train, Belayet Hossain, said that he works in the IT department of a private company and always travels to his village one or two days after Eid, which allows him to travel comfortably without any hassle.

The Jayantika intercity train bound for Sylhet departed at 11:15am.

Additionally, between morning and 1pm on the second day of Eid, a total of 12 local and intercity trains left Kamalapur railway station.

The platform station master on duty at Kamalapur stated that all trains left the station according to the schedule.

Not only by train, but many are also leaving the capital by road.

At the Gulisthan Fulbaria bus terminal, people from the southwestern districts are traveling home via the Padma Bridge.

However, due to fewer passengers, some long-distance buses were seen leaving Dhaka with only a few passengers.

Many buses were also seen leaving Dhaka from the Mohakhali, Sayedabad, and Gabtoli bus terminals on the day after Eid.

However, there were complaints about overcharging fares.

Transport operators were reportedly charging higher fares under the pretext of fewer passengers. For instance, A passenger named Hasan alleged that the fare for the Dhaka-Barguna route on AC buses of Diganta Paribahan, which is usually Tk800, was increased to Tk1,500 during Eid.

When asked, the counter manager, Alim, said: "We are charging Tk1,500 taka until the 20th. After that, it will return to the usual fare."

At the Sayedabad bus terminal, a group of young men and women were seen heading to Sylhet for a trip.

They said that they were going on a trip with friends since they got holidays.

One of the young men, Mohaimin, said: "Our university is closed, so we are all going together. We had planned this trip earlier."

Another young woman, Saima, said: "Whenever we get holidays, we go on trips with friends. We aim to visit all 64 districts of the country while we are still students because it's hard to find the time and opportunity after student life."
